The Sandisk Extreme 510 is packed into a small sleek package. Due to the 480GB disk inside, it may be slightly bulkier than previous models. The centre drive is protected by the red rubber barrier. Also, there’s a metal socket for connecting a lanyard. The rubber barrier protects the drive and the 3.0 port from dust and water.

Testing the speed of the drive we found it to range between 320 and 420MB/s for reading speeds. The write speeds ranged from 250 to 400MB/s. Overall these were a lot better than previous models. We found speeds on the Mac were in the top end of the speeds, with Windows tailing behind.
The price of the drive is a tad higher than similar models. We clock this up to the rugged design, and protection from the elements. The speed test shows that the NAND memory was a good upgrade choice and puts it above the competition.

Overall, the SanDisk Extreme 510 is a solid choice for people that carry data around with them. As I do video editing on the road, this is great to carry the premier files.
