River City Girls on PS4. There’s trouble once again on the mean streets of River City, but this time the boys are in over their heads! In this all-new entry in the legendary beat-’em-up series, hot-blooded heroes Kuni and Riki have been captured, leaving it to their hard-hitting girlfriends, Kyoko and Misako, to serve up some payback. As you punch and kick your way across town – either solo or with a friend in local co-op – you’ll gain new skills, chow down on power-ups, wield an assortment of weapons, and unleash an arsenal of combos, throws, and special attacks that will leave the bad guys crying for mama – all in outrageous 16-bit style! The awesome action is punctuated by manga story panels, anime cutscenes, and an epic synth-pop soundtrack. It’s an old-school rumble for a new generation!

River City Girls is the old-school brawler you never knew you needed. Your character is placed in River City, where you will have to punch and kick your way through the enemies. When you defeat an enemy you gain XP and money. XP will make you more powerful, while money is used to buy weapons and moves. This is great in single-player, but amazing in co-op on the sofa.
River City Girls PS4 Features:
- Wild beat-’em-up action for 1 or 2 players!
- Glorious anime and manga cutscenes!
- Rockin’ synth-pop soundtrack!
- Six large areas of the city to explore and fight in!
- Loads of weapons and abilities!
The game starts pretty simply, with a choice of heavy or light attacks. But the gameplay evolves to allow you to even recruit enemies to assist you. This features the classic option to pick up the scenery and throw it at people. You can even take down enemies with weapons scattered on the floor.

One silly problem is you can’t see what kind of moves you’re buying. So you have to spend money on a move you may never end up using. You also spend a lot of the first game upgrading, whilst this seems to slow down in the last part of the game.
Characters upgrade separately. This means that if you and your friend play as different players, you’ll need to make sure to upgrade their character as well. What happened a couple of times as I was at level 9 and they were still at level 5. This meant they weren’t as much of a help. This is negative because when you die, you lose a lot of money. This is such a pain, as it meant that I was tentative about fighting a boss encase I lost.

If you are a fan of old school brawlers, then this is a must-have. The fact it has sofa co-op is a massive plus and great to play with a friend. Finally, please check out our gaming reviews. Also, don’t forget to connect with the Jabba Reviews team on Facebook or Twitter.
