RAD on the PS4 is a 3D action rogue-like set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has faced armageddon not once, but twice.
Playing as a teenage protagonist, you must venture into the Fallow – an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures. It is here that you will find the solution to heal the world and transform the cracked, barren landscape into a lush source of new life. But humanity’s future comes at great personal cost, as the deeper you journey into unknown lands, the more you will expose yourself to gnarly toxins which will wreak havoc on your fragile human form. The fate of the world depends on you, your trusty bat, and whatever strange new abilities you gain as the world around you ravages your body – twisting and mutating you into something far less than human, but far more powerful.
RAD PS4 Gameplay
RAD is a top-down rogue-like game, but with a quirky 80’s aesthetic. It’s set in a post-post-apocalyptic wasteland. This wasteland isn’t dull though but littered with bright neon plants and enemies. Your teenage character has a baseball bat and must venture out into the land. A unique addition is that the longer you spend out in the wasteland, the more disfigured you’ll get. This has its advantages though, as you gain abilities, that will allow you to hit back harder.
There is an online presence throughout the game. This takes the form of daily challenges with predetermined quirks to see who among you is Bad and who is Rad, by comparing yourself on the leaderboards. You can unlock new bats that give you special advantages when playing through the game.
Graphically I am reminded a lot of Borderlands. Characters have a dark outline to them, making them stand out in the bright wacky landscape. The gameplay is smooth, even with a lot of enemies on the screen. Enemies have their attack patterns, so you have to learn them to avoid and then attack.
Points of interest are highlighted with the trainable button. This can allow you to pick up items and activate switches. The abilities you gain can be anything from allowing a harder bat hit, to developing wings and double-jumping over enemies.
This is a great rouge-like game. It’s graphics and overall look are amazing, it plays well. The mutations are a great addition and finally refreshes the rouge-like market. Finally, please check out our gaming reviews. Also, don’t forget to connect with the Jabba Reviews team on Facebook or Twitter.
