As a tech enthusiast and frequent user of thermal imaging devices, I had the opportunity to test two popular thermal cameras – the HIKMICRO Mini2 and the TOPDON TC001. Both cameras provide exceptional features and offer high-quality thermal imaging for various applications. In this review, I will compare their features and performance, detailing my first-hand experience with both.

Image Quality and Performance
The image quality in both thermal cameras is indeed impressive. The HIKMICRO Mini2 and TOPDON TC001 both feature a VOx detector with a resolution of 256 x 192 pixels. I noticed the optimized image enhancement algorithms provided by the Mini2 offered slightly clearer thermal images, thus making the Mini2 the winner in this category. The Mini2 also has a 25 Hz video capability, ensuring smooth footage in real-time, a feature that the TC001 does not explicitly advertise.
Size and Portability
Both cameras are designed for mobility and convenience, but the Mini2 outshines the TC001 with its minimal size of 42 x 22.5 x 11.2 mm and a mere weight of 20g. Although the TC001 is also lightweight and compact, it is slightly larger and heavier, at 71x42x14mm and 30g. Thus, the Mini2 edges out as the winner in terms of portability.
Compatibility and Power
Both cameras are compatible with Android devices and require no additional power source. They plug into the device’s USB-C port and draw power directly from it. The TOPDON TC001 also supports Windows tablets, which provides an edge over the Mini2’s compatibility. The TC001’s power consumption is notably low at 0.35W, but the Mini2 does not specify its power usage. Therefore, the TC001 wins in this category for its extended compatibility and clear power consumption information.
Temperature Measurements
Both thermal cameras offer a wide temperature range and high measurement accuracy. The Mini2 measures temperatures from -20°C (-4°F) to 350°C (662°F), with an accuracy of ±2°C (±0.5°F) / ± 2 %. The TC001 extends the upper limit of its range to 550℃ with an accuracy of ±3.6ºF (2ºC) or 2% of the max temperature. For their accuracy and extended range, the TC001 emerges as the winner in this section.
App Features
Both devices are supported by comprehensive apps that provide useful temperature analysis tools. The HIKMICRO app includes features like high-temperature alarms, 15 color palettes, and 9 measurement areas. The TOPDON app offers real-time temperature graphs, a DIY temperature range, and a waveform graph for continuous measurements. While both apps are robust and user-friendly, the additional color palettes and measurement areas offered by the HIKMICRO app make it slightly superior. The Mini2 takes this round.
Durability
The Mini2 features IP40-rated aluminum alloy housings and passes drop tests up to 1 meter. The TC001 does not specify its durability ratings, making the Mini2 a clear winner in this category for its certified ruggedness.
Conclusion
Both the HIKMICRO Mini2 and TOPDON TC001 are powerful, portable, and provide impressive thermal imaging capabilities. However, based on my firsthand experience and analysis, the Mini2 slightly edges out the TC001 with its superior image quality, compact design, and advanced app features. The TC001 does stand out with its wider compatibility and temperature range. Your choice between the two would ultimately depend on your specific needs and preferences.
