Designed to be used on-the-go, the new Ember Travel Mug² does more than simply keep your coffee hot. Their smart mug allows you to set an exact drinking temperature and keeps it there for up to 3 hours, so your coffee is never too hot, or too cold.
Ember Travel Mug² Features:
- 12 fl. oz (355 ml)
- Easy to clean. The mug is safe to handwash and submersible up to 1 meter in water
- Leak-proof lid is dishwasher safe
- Includes new, redesigned charging coaster
I love the design of the Ember Travel Mug². The sleek black monolith, with bright white LEDs on the front, looks super cool. The LEDs will indicate the temperature and allow you to increase the temp if needed. The Ember Travel Mug² leakproof, push-to-open lid will keep your hot beverage from spilling while on the go. The 360º drinking experience makes it convenient to sip from any side, and it is engineered for easy cleaning.
It will intelligently sense when to turn on and off. So after drinking all the liquid, it will shut down to save battery. The temperature ranges from 120°F – 145°F (50°C – 62.5 °C). Selecting your temperature can be done on the mug or with the Ember app.
This isn’t an actual thermos. If you put hot water in a regular glass cup, you’ll get the same level of thermal insulation. So when it’s off, you will not be getting any additional thermal enhancements.
I found a lot of the time, that the battery would go fast, as the temperature was dropping faster then the heater could heat it. This meant the three-hour battery was closer to one hour.
I was a little let down by the amount of liquid this can hold. It holds around twelve ounces, which isn’t enough. I end up drinking it too fast, meaning I do not need to keep it hot. Ideally, I’d like to see a bigger mug which holds more liquid. This would mean I would like it to stay hotter for longer.
The app is very fiddly, I had the same issues with the Ember Mug2. It can connect, but will sometimes just decided to forget the device. This means I have to reset and re-sync, which on a bus with a hot cup of coffee can be difficult.
Overall, the idea of the Ember Travel Mug² is better than its execution. The look and design are fantastic, while the experience may differ.
