The dock is well made, feels robust, and is a lot cooler than the CarlDigit TB3+ I had before. My only complaint is that the USB ports will not provide the full 5v1a power. They’re limited to 0.9a for the blue ports and 0.5a for the black ports. This isn’t enough power to run all USB devices.

When you try to use more power than it can give out, it doesn’t handle it gracefully. I attached a thumb drive and my MBP got very… wonky. The mouse would freeze trying to move and eventually OS X popped up a box saying “A USB device was using too much power and has been disabled”. This caused the entire dock to be in a weird state, none of the USB devices worked until I turned off the computer and the dock and turned them back on again.

Using a USB-C adapter for the thumb drive and worked fine in the port on the front of the dock.

Overall, I am really impressed with the Anker Apex 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Dock. I’ve marked it down for the lack of full power for the USB ports, but other than that, I’ve been very happy with the dock.
