TechSmith Camtasia 2018 Review

TechSmith Camtasia 2018 Review

Camtasia is my favourite video editing software. In my job, I’m tasked with creating training videos. I found competitors like Adobe to be overkill. Camtasia 2018 allows anyone to make training videos or product demos. The program comes with an HD screen recorder and a built-in video editor. It’s available for Mac and Windows, and though not free is well priced.

Camtasia’s newest version comes with a New Library, allowing you to organize video assets into subfolders, and share via a Zip. You can create your own library or use the Camtasia 2018 default library. This comes with a load of free images and videos you can use on your next video. You can download more of these from Camtasia if needed, some are free and some would need to be paid for. These also can only be used with Camtasia.

I was happy to see that you can now process videos at 60 frames per second (fps) allowing for a smooth, polished result. In its previous version, Camtasia Studio 9, you can only edit video at 30 fps. Now it is possible in 60 fps. But be aware the screen recorder is 30 fps.

TechSmith Camtasia 2018 Announcement

Camtasia 2018 is so much faster than the previous version I used. Though when testing with a 3 min project, exporting as a 1080p MP4 file with some annotations, these exported in around 5 mins. It’s perfect for when you need to get a video done and out within a day. You can record and then edit right after, with no need to import or convert the recording.

Though this may not be able to compete with Adobe in regards to editing capabilities. Also, Camtasia will allow even a video novice to record, edit and share their video in minutes. Finally, please check out our other software reviews.
