SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech on Nintendo Switch is the roleplaying card game you’ve been waiting for! Lead a party of aspiring heroes through a beautifully hand-drawn world and intense battles using only your wits and a handful of cards. Take on whatever threat comes your way by crafting your own deck choosing from over 100 unique punch-cards! What awaits you is a luscious treasure chest filled with gold, dragons, vivid worlds, magic, knights in shining armor as well as XP, turn-based battles and all that good RPG stuff! The game’s humorous mix of traditional fantasy and steampunk robots makes for an unforgettable experience with lots of laughs.

The characters in your party each have their own deck of cards. That deck is 8 cards, so 24 over your 3 characters. I thought this was a negative, but it does streamline the game, and not bog it down with countless combinations of cards.

You can increase and expand your range of cards through crafting, looting or buying cards from merchants. There are around 100 cards in total, and this is the best way to find them and learn to use them.

Hand of Gilgamechcards range from elemental attacks to healing. This helps establish the roles of your characters. But you will have to think on your feet as the game progresses revealing more powerful cards. A great addition is that cards can be strung together. This then gives you a bonus move.

There is an art to building the perfect deck. You have to make sure the deck is balanced with free and powerful cards. I made the mistake of going too heavy with power cards and ran out of action points very quickly. I was a bit worried about the card playing mechanic as it isn’t one I have enjoyed before. But I really had fun with this one.
