Planet Zoo on PC Review
Despite the cute name, Planet Zoo takes the livelihood of the virtual animals very seriously. This is highlighted in the huge amount of tutorial levels you have to run through and the levels of menus to navigate. Things like humidity, temperature, plants, terrain, privacy all have to be monitored and tweaked as you go. The menu structure and slightly buggy snapping of paths and fencing cause no end of bother.
I had several issues trying to place buildings, as they don’t seem to snap into place. Rather they phase in and out of the ground, and I spent twelve minutes trying to place a building on an open spot. A similar “snapping” issue was had with the fencing, and I feel they made that whole system overly complicated. Though I will thank the creators of the game for building fun and engaging tutorial levels. These saved me a huge amount of time and were fun doing them. The whole game takes a lot of practice, and my first zoo looks terrible compared to my latest one.
Unlike Tropico 6, which is based around economical turmoil, Planet Zoo is more around keeping people and animals happy. The big draw of Planet Zoo is the wide array of animals and insects, that you can show off to the public. The animals all look great and can be zoomed in onto for closer inspection. Apart from generating profit, you can also contribute to conservation work.
Overall, Planet Zoo on PC is a magnificent zoo management game. The graphics and amount of work put into the story is amazing. Though it is let down by a complicated menu and buggy placement issues.
