The boldest Northmen have set sail to explore and conquer these new shores, bring fame to their Clan and write history through conquest, trading, or devotion to the Gods. Northgard Nintendo Switch Trailer
Northgard is a classic RTS. The gameplay is based around growing your clan’s population and resources. Wood is used for buildings, and farmers, hunters and fishermen collect food for your clan. You can see how much resources you have along the top of your screen, with either a plus or minus to show if you are losing or gaining more then you use. You will also need to invest in a barracks to build an army, market place to trade and silos to store food for the winter. Any RTS player will pick this up quickly.
One thing I loved was the inclusion of seasons. Seasons mean that you have to prepare for winter, otherwise you may not be able to gather enough resources. This is where silos come in, as they can be used to store food for the winter. You get a nice warning before this happens, but it still takes me by surprise. Though I did find it odd that you can’t speed up the game, which means you can be waiting a while sometimes.
I wasn’t even aware this was a mouse and keyboard game originally. The port of this is brilliant. You can access everything quickly. Menus can be accessed with ease, and selecting members of the clan is easy.
Northgard is finally home on the Switch. This game feels made for the Switch and not a port. Graphics are good in handheld mode and look great on the TV. Controls are intuitive, and the game plays surprisingly well. Finally, please check out our gaming reviews. Also, don’t forget to connect with the Jabba Reviews team on Facebook or Twitter.
