No, there isn’t a Switch exchange program

A lot of sites are reporting about a Switch Exchange Service. So, if you recently bought a Nintendo Switch, you can upgrade it to the newer version.

Switch Exchange Program

A Nintendo spokesperson has completely denied this Switch Exchange Service exists, telling Gizmodo that:

“We do not have a Nintendo Switch exchange program. We always want players to enjoy their Nintendo Switch systems. If anything ever gets in the way of that, we encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com. There they can get support, or to contact our consumer support team.”

The story is that anyone who purchased an old Switch after July 17th (when the newer model was announced) could send in their old console for a replacement. This was free apart from the shipping costs. This all started from one reddit post, that was told by a Nintendo representative that they could only exchange if purchased after July 17th. They also confirmed the upgrade was the processor and not battery.

What we found funny was that no news source who reported on this story claimed they had any proof. There was no Nintendo quote about this service, it was simply based on one Reddit post.

The new Switch handles battery better than the older model. This isn’t much but can seem like a godsend for anyone who games on the go. Nintendo told Gizmodo:

“The revised model of the flagship Nintendo Switch system includes the same look as the original, but it has a longer battery life. The packaging for Nintendo Switch has also been given a new look. Consumers should start seeing the new packaging on store shelves around mid-August, but that will vary by individual stores and locations.”
