Introducing the Netgear XR300 Nighthawk Pro Gaming WiFi Router
The XR300 comes with an Ethernet cable, power cable and a manual. There is also the 3 antenna, which can be positioned in any direction.
The router itself is sleek, with a low profile design and sharp edges. The backs and sides feature vents, but under test environment never got too hot. You can also wall-mount it if that’s your kind thing. Ports include 1 WAN port, 4 Gigabit ports, and 1 USB 3.0 port. There is also a reset, and power on switch. The USB port allows for external storage to be attached and then accessed via UPnP and DNLA.
Once all connected, you need to access your browser and then this should initiate the installation wizard. Updates were installed first, as this is imported for any router. The DumaOS is great and easy to navigate. You can see real-time stats, such as CPU and bandwidth.
The gamer side of the router is found here, with settings such as Geo-Filter. The filter blocks connections that are further away, ensuring you have a good ping. Any players or servers outside of this radius will be rejected. You can also monitor devices connected to the router, and make changes like remove them from the network, or set parental controls. These all help create an ideal gaming environment.
The XR300 is made all the better with the inclusion of DumaOS. This makes set up a breeze and devices easy to manage. Finally, check out our other Digital Home reviews. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook.
