The Netgear RBK763 Orbi 760 Series Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System is upgraded to blazing-fast 5.4Gbps† of mesh WiFi 6 on up to 75 devices simultaneously across more space: 7 rooms or up to 7,500 sq. ft. Protected by award-winning NETGEAR security services, the RBK763 includes a dedicated connection for instant router-satellite communication and 7 Gigabit ports to give your most demanding tech products their wired connection.
Orbi is engineered for more efficient data transmission through our exclusive Tri-Band technology. The result is faster WiFi performance that doesn’t degrade across the house. Orbi keeps everyone in your house streaming Netflix shows, video calls, and gaming, all at the same time with no buffering or drop-offs.
Orbi’s unique shape and height encase ultra-premium, high-power components to deliver significantly better coverage and overall performance than the competition. You wouldn’t leave your door unlocked at night. Treat your WiFi with the same level of security. NETGEAR Armor keeps your family and your connected devices safe with an automatic shield of protection for your network to stop hackers, password thieves, ransomware, and brute force attacks. Easily manage kids’ time and accessibility online across all connected devices. Promote healthy Internet habits, foster responsibility and build trust with your kids.
The three Orbi RBK763 stations come in at around 211mm in height, which is 20mm shorter than the old RBK752 units. The main router unit has four Gigabit Ethernet ports, one of which connects to your internet line, while the other two are designed as satellites and have two network sockets each. It’s a little disappointing not to see there are no USB ports for connecting storage or mobile internet adaptors, although that’s entirely normal for meshes.
The easiest way to set up your network is to use the Orbi mobile app. It scans the QR code on the back of the main unit and sets up the connection to the other satellites. You can then conveniently log into the management interface with a fingerprint, check connected devices, control the guest network and carry out various other everyday tasks from the convenience of your phone.
Also, the RBK763 supports Netgear’s two signature smart services. The Armor security platform is free for the first year, including active detection and blocking of threats on your network – but after that, you have to pay £85 a year to keep it going. And if you want parental control functions, to block unsavoury websites and set usage limits on kids’ devices, that’s another £50. I’d have hoped these services would come included with the units, and I can confirm I won’t be spending that money.
Since my five-bedroom home is somewhat on the cusp of Netgear’s coverage recommendations, I tested the Orbi RBK763 in both two-node and three-node configurations. In both cases, the primary node was installed in my office/bedroom.
I situated the second node in the kitchen, which is in the middle of the house downstairs. The third Orbi unit is on the other side of the house in the hallway. I then walked around with my phone testing the internet speed, getting around 250mbs in every room. Even in a two-node configuration, the Orbi RBK763 delivered an impressive performance, mostly matching the speeds of the three-station setup all around my medium-sized home.
Overall, the Netgear RBK763 Orbi 760 Series Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System is a definite upgrade from the previous-generation Orbi. It’s undeniably faster, and the physical units are smaller and neater. The standard firmware meanwhile ensures you don’t miss out on features.
