Pros

  • Premium Design
  • Great Materials
  • Sound

Cons

  • No Active Noise Canceling

Premium leather, Stainless steel, Forged aluminum, these aren’t words normally associated with headphones. But Master & Dynamic have broken the mold when it comes to style with their MW60 Headphones. These feel like a sports car my dad won’t let me drive, which makes them feel even better when I wear them out.

The box these come in is huge. The headphones come with a matching leather cable box, a 3.5mm cable, a 3.5/6.3 mm gold-plated adapter, a micro-USB cable and a canvas headphone pouch. No USB-C for these, but they were released a bit before it became the standard.

The stainless steel and leather mean that these will last longer then I will. They have a weight to them, which isn’t a bad thing. They feel great to carry around and aren’t bad on my head. But my favourite feature is the lambskin memory foam earpads. These feel so good on my ears, and they are magnetic so they can just be taken off to see the drivers for the headphones.

Master & Dynamic MW60 Over-Ear Headphones Specs:

  • Drivers – 45mm Neodymium
  • Impedance – 32 ohms
  • Weight – 345g
  • Materials – Premium grain leather, lambskin leather, stainless steel, aluminium
  • Cable – Detachable 1.25m Standard Cable, Micro USB Input Cord
  • Headphone Connection- 3.5mm Passive Audio input micro USB charging/firmware update input
  • Ear Coupling – Circum-aural / Over-Ear
  • Microphone Type – Omni-directional
  • Ear Pads – Detachable lambskin memory foam
  • Bluetooth Profile – Bluetooth 4.1 with Aptx™ high-quality audio

Due to being an older model, these support Bluetooth 4.1, and not the newer more powerful 5.0. Though the inclusion of Aptx means that when paired these sound amazing. There are 3way controls on one ear cup allowing for play/pause and skipping. You can also pick up a call, and using the Omni-directional mic means that calls sound good from both sides.

The sound from these is warm and rich. Though these aren’t noise canceling, the seal the cups provide do a good job at blocking out external sounds and keeping in any sound bleeding. The sound is similar to listening to a vinyl player. Instruments and voices were clear to pick out, and listening to something like Beastie Boys allowed me to really hear each sample used, and then Ian Dury sounded like I was at the filming of the Old Grey Whistle Test.

Battery life is great, I was able to use these for around 2 weeks and not have to charge them once. Master & Dynamic claim it has around 16 hours of playtime. The lack of USB-C is a disapointment, but these never needed a quick charge, as they lasted so long.

Master & Dynamic are definitely a premium headphone brand, but this is for good reason. If you imagine a life listening to The Beach Boys on a red leather chair by an open fire, these are the headphones for you. Finally, please remember to check out our other Audio reviews.
