Hellmut: The Badass from Hell on the Nintendo Switch allows you to take control of various Transformations and unlock new Transformations each time you complete the game. Challenge randomly generated bosses across the randomly generated world, defeat demonic hordes, loot valuable treasures and soulstones, equip powerful weapons and use all your skills to save humanity! Or at the very least, save yourself, which feels at least as good as saving humanity. Each Transformation gives you new ways of conquering yet more hordes of demons! Command rats as the Rat King, become the Orc Fairy with her mighty spells (well, as mighty as an Orc Fairy can cast…), dip enemies in the questionable goo of the Slimeball, or become many other ludicrous monstrosities.

When you start you get two Transformation the Stitchmonster & the Rat King. As the intro mentioned you will unlock more transformations as you play. Each transformation can be collected and switched to as you play. They each come with their own weapon and special move.

Hellmutt is a roguelike game, so each level is generated as it loads. This means no two levels are the same. You then have the fun of a boss for every third level you complete. There is a shop where you can grab upgrades, weapons and protection. They can be bought with in-game currency you pick up as you play.

Blue and pink soulgems are dropped by enemies and can be used with the Eye of Ka-Ra. If you have the right amount of gems you can summon a demon. You will then have to complete a task of strength and you will be rewarded with a special item.

The last part of the level would be the End Portal. You have to fight off one last wave of enemies, and then you are given some portals. One will allow you to exit the game, the others allow you to travel back to the shop or Eye of Ka-Ra. This is where you fight off against the big baddie, beat him and you can keep the transformations you collected.
If you can survive these levels, you’ll be treated to a boss fight in a contained room. These guys are big and they’re tough, so prepare to be tested mightily here. Survive everything, and you will permanently unlock the mutations gifted to you by Ka-Ra.

Hellmut is a lot of fun. Its retro graphics already make it a winner with me. The music was a bit odd, I expected Metallica style guitars. But the soundtrack was very passive. Apart from that, if you love roguelike games, then grab Hellmut: The Badass from Hell. Finally, check out our other gaming reviews.
