These are a bit chunkier than the original joy-cons. The back has a bump in it, which is a bit more comfortable on the hand. The material used makes them feel less premium than Joy-Cons. They are a bit larger, but there is very little difference in weight.
The big selling point of these is the designs. They come in a variety of designs including some based on games. The cubes one we were sent is based on the Minecraft franchise. I feel Nintendo could take some ideas from this, as designs are a little more exciting then solid colours.
These feature all the big features that people like in their Joy-Cons. Motion and vibration support are supported, which is very similar to HD rumble. They also work in handheld mode if needed. Set up isn’t as easy as the original Joy-Cons but eventually, we managed to get them all set up.
The big missing feature is that these will not charge via the Switch, so you need to take them out and charge them out when they run out of battery. Though battery life is around 12 hours and uses USB-C. There are distinct button shapes for the D-Pad and the face buttons. This is a small change but feels much better when playing.
