The big selling point is the incredibly wide 180-degree viewing angle. This means that I can see the whole person from toes to head. This is especially useful for deliveries, as you can see the package is placed on the floor.

Another difference between this and other products is if the doorbell is pressed, this will activate a phone call instead of a notification. This means I can answer the doorbell quicker, then a notification I have to open. The audio is crisp and easy to hear and speak to. There are also pre-recorded answers you can set, so the doorbell can tell Royal Mail to just leave the package at the door.

The Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free can also work as a security camera, notifying you of any movement. Activity zones can be set from within the app, as well as sensitivity. Additions like night vision and a siren should be expected, and are appreciated.

Set up was easy enough through the Arlo app. Scanning the QR code on the doorbell will add it to your list and the app will run through setting it up with the wifi etc. There is no need for a base station, this can work by itself.

The “negative” is that you have to use this with an Arlo subscription. I don’t view this as too bad, as its a good service. But I know there are cheaper options out there, without any subscription cost.
