The Pocketalk S Translator utilises the best translation engines around the world to provide a consistently accurate experience across 82 languages, including localized dialects and slang. Also, the camera takes a photo and the large touchscreen displays translated text directly on top of the image. Pocketalk can provide an optional audio translation for the camera-translated text as well.
The Pocket S Translator looks like a squished mobile phone. There is a 480 x 640 touch screen and a single button on the front. The back features an 8mp camera and flash. There is a SIM card slot and this includes Bluetooth 4.2, 3G and 4G. The 1200 mAh is charged via the included USB-C cable.
Using the Pocket S is easy. Set the language and then press the button to record the person speaking. So a good example was me ordering at a bar in Frace. I held down the button and recorded me saying the drinks order, it then plays back the order in French. They can then respond and the device translates back to English. This works for most common languages, with others displaying as text.
It’s incredibly simple to use and the complimentary 2-year cellular data plan means I have coverage in over 130 countries/regions. Different areas in France have local dialects and slang words, this picked them up with no problems.
The camera on the back allows you to snap a picture of a menu or a sign and the Pocket S displays the translation on its screen. I like that you can connect it to your phone to see the translations there. There are also a couple of additional features like conversion of currency, weights and dimensions.
The size is perfect for portability and they have made a great decision in the design of the Pocket S. The sleek minimal design isn’t much to look at, but slips into your pocket or bag with no problems.
Overall, the Pocketalk S Translator is great for the traveller. If you work with our country’s then this is a great accessory. Finally, make sure to check out Jabba Reviews for more deals and reviews. Also, don’t forget to connect with the Jabba Reviews team on our Facebook or Twitter pages.
