Unboxing the Petoi Bittle X, a sense of anticipation fills the air. With a quick scan of the package, it’s clear that this isn’t your average robot toy. And true enough, as I lay my eyes on the little robot dog for the first time, I can’t help but feel a childlike sense of excitement. Rated for ages 10 and up, the Bittle X is designed with both kids and adults in mind.

The Bittle X stands out with its compact design. Weighing in between 265g to 290g and measuring 200 x 110 x 110mm, it has a comforting heft to it. The attention to detail in its design is apparent, with its plastic servos and microcontroller, the BiBoard. The build quality feels robust, and I have no doubts that it will withstand the rigors of active use.

As I venture into setting it up, I find that the Bittle X connects seamlessly via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or a wired connection. It’s great to see such versatility in a product like this, ensuring that it can accommodate various user preferences and situations.

One thing that sets the Bittle X apart is its voice control feature. It comes equipped with over 35 predefined voice commands in English and Chinese, which can be quite entertaining. But the fun doesn’t stop there. With the ability to program up to 10 custom voice commands in C++, the opportunities for personalization are almost endless. I find myself spending hours tinkering with different commands, trying to make Bittle X perform all sorts of tricks. The satisfaction of seeing it respond to my voice commands is truly indescribable.

The Bittle X also shines when it comes to battery life. The built-in Li-Ion battery promises up to 70 minutes of playtime, which is more than enough for a session of fun. It’s a relief not to have to constantly worry about the battery running out.

From a programming perspective, the Bittle X supports C++, Python, and Petoi Coding Blocks, which can be accessed through the Petoi Mobile app, Petoi Desktop app, and Arduino IDE. It’s a fantastic way for kids and adults alike to learn coding while having fun. The OpenCat robotics framework support is another added bonus, offering additional learning resources.

Despite all its merits, the Bittle X is not without its shortcomings. The voice control feature, while innovative, could use some improvement. There were instances where it struggled to understand my commands. Also, the compact design, while advantageous in many ways, might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially for those looking for a larger-sized robot.

Nevertheless, the Bittle X brings a unique experience that is hard to find in other products. It marries education with entertainment, offering a platform for both learning and fun. It’s not every day that you find a product that can teach you coding, respond to your voice commands, and be a source of amusement.

So, after thoroughly testing and playing with the Bittle X, I feel confident giving it a score of 8 out of 10. It’s an excellent product with room for improvement, and I believe it will bring joy and learning to many. It might be a bit of an investment at $279, but given the value it offers, I’d say it’s well worth the price.

In conclusion, my experience with the Petoi Bittle X has been largely positive. Despite its minor flaws, its versatility and innovative features make it a standout choice for anyone looking to dive into the world of robotics. It’s a product that doesn’t just aim to entertain, but also to educate, and that’s something truly special.
