The Olive Smart Ear arrived in a small well-packed box, including the charging base and accessories. The instructions had large print and easy to understand steps, which is perfect for the older clientele. The ear tips come in foam or silicone, allows for the maximum best fit.
The app then allows you to tail the Smart Ear to your hearing. The walkthrough is straightforward and gets you set up and going quickly. This set up includes a hearing test, adjusting volume and changing modes.
Modes:
- Conversation Mode – Better conversations in noisy environments. Enjoy conversations anywhere.
- TV Mode – TV Mode helps you hear digital sounds clearer and louder. Stop turning up TV volume too loud.
- Feedback Cancellation – Decrease feedback and background noise with the touch of a single button.
- Customizable Equalizer Settings – Have full control of your sound with customizable equalizer settings.
Taking calls on the mobile was easy, and hearing on both sides was perfect. There are touch controls to pick up and end a call. You can then place the Smart Ear back into the charging dock when not in use. I was able to get around 8 hours of listening before it finally died.

The only real negative for me is that is it a single ear. As for someone who does have trouble hearing, I would much rather have coverage on both sides. These look just like normal earbuds, so you don’t even look like you’re wearing a hearing aid.
Overall, the Olive Smart Ear is a great device and is moving in the right direction. I would love to see a pair of these available soon. Finally, please remember to check out our other Audio reviews.
