What a time to be alive. I can walk into my local Pret and play Mortal Kombat 11 on my Switch! Mortal Kombat 11 on the Nintendo Switch was a surprise announcement for me, as I couldn’t imagine how they would fit such a big game into this little device. I wouldn’t say out of all the devices the Switch is the best one to play it on, but its mighty fun.

Graphically lighting is a lot duller, the fight zones are very placid and the texture details are lacking texture. Handheld is difficult to see this, but in docked mode, you can see the 720p upscale. But, this is to keep up the impressive 60FPS. Handheld also benefits for the 60FPS. I am blown away by how they managed to achieve such a great port.

It plays amazingly and with little to no artefacts or dropped frames. This is a pro-controller game, I tried using the joycons but, they just didn’t give me the control I needed. I also tried using the PowerA enhanced controller and this worked even better.

The download of the game was massive clocking in at 16.1 GB. I would recommend downloading everything, as this gives you access to the higher quality audio and video elements of the game. You do require a constant online connection, this is for access to any unlocked content. You can play offline, but if you want access to those fancy characters, you will need to get into a wifi zone.

Online play is where I was really impressed. The whole experience was smooth, and though not lag free, I will say that it plays a lot better than some other games. It’s nice to be able to just play a quick online match.

The story mode is majorly fun to play. The transition between cutscene and fight isn’t as smooth as I’d like it to be. The story behind it is fun to watch and was something I found myself wanting to get back into after work.

There are IAP in this game. It doesn’t stop you from enjoying the game. But it would be nice to just have everything available to you on day 1. I did spend a lot of time playing the Towers of time, and it’s disappointing when you get something you weren’t after.

Overall, if you have a Switch, get this game. It’s fun, it looks great and is an amazing port. Finally, check out our other gaming reviews.
