Hendrick’s Gin is known for being “a most unusual gin” with notes of Bulgarian rose, cucumber, and traditional juniper.
Distilled in small batches of just 500 litres, the gin is looked after in their Scottish Distillery by the master distiller and the small batch production gives her ultimate control over the final product which means that the drinker is always getting the best of the Hendrick’s experience. Their gin is made by combining two different spirits from the two stills – the Bennet still and the Carter-Head still – which gives the promised smooth drinking experience with subtle blended flavours.
Hendrick’s Dreamscapes Edition
This special Dreamscapes edition comes with a cute little teacup and saucer and the box is lovely, which makes it a perfect gift for someone special. The ideas for cocktails included are amazing, but I’ve been mainly drinking it mixed with Indian tonic and a cucumber garnish instead of the traditional lime. We also make our own lemonade which I have used to blend the flavour of the gin and the tonic into a long and refreshing summer drink over plenty of ice.
The gin is a heady 41.4% ABV but doesn’t taste sharp or burn, even when I tried it straight over ice. The problem is that you don’t realise how many gin and tonics you’ve had until you’ve had too many, because it is deliciously drinkable and the blend of herbal and floral flavours is lovely.
Cucumber Basil Smash by Hendrick’s Gin
- 1 part Henrick’s Gin
- ¾ part Fresh Lemon Juice
- ¾ part Simple Syrup
- Basil leaves
- Cucumber Wheels
In a mixing glass muddle basil, cucumber, and simple syrup. Next add Hendrick’s Gin, lemon juice, and ice. Then, shake well and fine strain into an iced double rocks glass. Finish with a garnish of basil and cucumber wheels.
